Community Wildlife Project – Your Local Wildlife Needs You!

Lizzie Every, Community Engagement Officer for Freshwater Habitats Trust, has been reaching out to community groups with the opportunity to take part in this year’s GroWet project.

This amazing project has been specifically developed for the community, enabling groups to have a hands-on approach to nature conservation by helping to stop the decline of Oxfordshire’s rare wetland plants.

Your community group will receive a pack of seedlings, plus all the necessary equipment for you to grow your plants in a location convenient to you (preferably some garden space outside, or somewhere it will get some sunlight e.g., a windowsill) over the summer of 2023. When your plants have grown, the Freshwater Habitats Trust will collect them from you to plant out at one of their designated, high-quality wetland habitats. The plants will be numbered, and GroWet volunteers will have the opportunity to plant their plants out into these specified habitats themselves and follow their plants journey through interactive mapping, social media and videos.

Last year GroWet proved to not only be beneficial to nature, but also beneficial to volunteers’ well-being, with 94% agreeing that through GroWet, they have felt part of a bigger effort for nature and 73% agreeing that they have personally benefited from taking part in GroWet. Freshwater Habitats Trust really hope that you will join them in saving these local plants from extinction whilst also doing something positive for your mental well-being.

If you would like to sign up, please do so via the volunteer recruitment form: https://forms.office.com/e/zVCh4Ju0H5 🙂.
