Our History: The Stewart Village Halll is embedded in the history of our Village, it started life in 1870 as the Village School. There are several booklets published by village groups which tell the story of days those halcyon days; ringing the school bell, classes being held in what is now the main hall and legendary teachers that are still remembered fondly today. An old abacus on the wall of the main hall bears the legend, “Manners makyth man” and is a lovely reminder of the hall’s original role.
Our Aims : There have been many changes since the hall opened as the Village Hall in 1976 – Stewart Village Hall is now maintained and run as a charitable trust to support and maintain this historic building on behalf of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell villagers, community groups, local businesses and all hall users and to remain at the heart of the Village.
Hall facilities :
The Main hall : will accommodate up to 100 people or 130 in Theatre style set up. It supports multi-media presentations with projector, electric screen and audio systems plus controllable room lighting, tables and comfortable padded chairs for flexible seating arrangements – dining, lectures, conferences, sales tables, etc .
The Kitchen : The hall boasts a fully operational kitchen with double ovens, plate and dish warmer, microwave and fridge/freezer. There is cutlery and crockery and glassware available. The Kitchen is available for hire with the hall or separately for cooking demonstrations, catering preparation etc.
The Stewart Room : an attractive room for smaller groups and meetings and has it’s own facilities to make refreshments. Use of the kitchen when hiring the Stewart Room is also possible.
Hall users : There are a wide range of activities regularly held in the Hall reaching across all ages and interests of the village community, it is the home to the village Toddlers group, to keep fit, badminton, short mat bowls and pilates. Monthly WI meetings are held and local bands practice in the hall, village lunch club and village meetings are held in the hall as are, private parties and fundraising events. The Trustees welcome new and diverse groups to use the hall and will always try to accommodate their needs. There is disabled parking and also Wi-Fi available.
